WHITTLETS VICTORIA 1 KILSYTH RANGERS 2
STAGECOACH WEST REGION SUPERLEAGUE FIRST DIVISION           29/8/09

WHITTLETS VICTORIA 1  KILSYTH RANGERS 2

Rangers kept up their good start in the league with another win;
keeping them in joint top place after two games. It was not an easy
game, Whittlets provided stiff opposition while the stiff breeze made
it quite difficult at times for both teams. It was only in the final
stages that Rangers sealed the victory with another good goal from top
scorer, Chris Zok.

Rangers made a good start although Whittlets had the benefit of the
wind for the first forty five minutes. A moment of panic though when
Dukes dropped a high ball into the goalmouth but it was eventually
scrambled away for a corner. Rangers won a freekick some thirty yards
out and although it did not cause any problems to the home side it did
yield a corner from which McGINTY shot home a sixteen yard effort to
give them the lead in the eighteenth minute. It was all Rangers for a
time but they could not increase their lead and in thirty six minutes a
corner to Whittlets allowed BUCHANAN to get in a fine header from close
range to level the scores.
All square at halftime was a fair reflection on proceedings so far,
Rangers had played the better football, but Whittlets had made good use
of the wind.

Zok had a half chance early in the second half, but could not get the
right touch to trouble Barclay. Then Sichi came close with a diving
header which just went on the wrong side of the post. Rangers continued
to dominate and had a few more chances but were finding the vital
second goal was proving elusive. Both sides made changes as the second
half wore on; and with ten minutes remaining Tony Martin came on for
Callum Scott. It proved a profitable move as almost right away he had a
chance although the finish was wide of the target. He made amends a few
minutes later though; a fine run down the right wing and an inch
perfect cross to ZOK, whose diving header was well out of the keepers
reach. That was it as far as scoring went, Rangers kept possession for
the few remaining minutes and returned with the points, a competent
display against stuffy opposition and if this form is maintained it
augers well for their league chances.

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 3 KILSYTH RANGERS 0
STAGECOACH WEST REGION SUPERLEAGUE - FIRST DIVISION
5/9/05

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 3  KILSYTH RANGERS 0

A fairly decisive win for Glenafton in the end, but the scoreline does
not really give credit to Rangers for their contribution to what was a
hard fought, and entertaining game of football. A soft penalty, and two
defensive errors, were what cost Rangers at least a point, plus the
failure to cash in in at least one or two of the many good chances they
created.

Rangers started well and from a corner made a good opening within the
first minute, Zok got a touch, but the ball went just wide of the post.
there was some quite attractive football from both teams although it
was Rangers who were making the best chances in the early stages,
indeed it was quarter of an hour before Glenafton had their first shot
at goal. Zok had another good try with a lob which beat the keeper
initially although he managed to get back and catch it on the line.
After Rangers early onslaught had subsided a little Glenafton began to
show their potential with some very good play with former Hearts star,
Jose Quitongo, prominent in many of their moves. In forty minutes
Ramsay made a run into Rangers box and went down although there seemed
minimal contact, he probably had taken note of a similar incident
involving Arsenal and Celtic a few days earlier. The penalty was given
though, and after some delay and several bookings, was converted by
CONNELLY, to put the home side. the protests continued before the
restart and earned Tough a needless booking.

Rangers had replaced Neville with Martin at halftime in an effort to
add some more punch up front and soon he was in the thick of the action
putting some good balls into the Glens goalmouth. Then disaster struck
when Rangers failed to clear their lines when they had the chance and
HARTE scored a second from free header. Rangers might have been down
but were certainly not out and continued to push forward, the chances
were coming but the finishing was not quite up to the standard of the
leading up work. A series of corners still failed to produce the goal
which would have pulled Rangers right back into the game and a further
substitution was made, Miller coming on for Tough. Glenafton were
absorbing all the pressure and were always dangerous on the break and
with just ten minute remaining another defensive lapse let QUITONGO
break away, he showed his class by cleverly rounding Dukes and placing
the ball in the corner of the net to conclude the scoring. A lesson for
Rangers from a very strong home side who must be amongst the favourites
for promotion this season.

KILSYTH; Duke, Scott, Jarvis, Doyle, Murray, Neville (Martin), Kelly
(D Watters), McGinty, Zok, Tough (Miller), Sichi.
Subs. (Not used) Carr, McPeake, O'Boyle (G/k)

GLENAFTON; Semple, Connelly, Wilson, Merrilees, Moffat, McDonald,
Eeles, Clapperton, Harte, Quitongo, Ramsay.
Subs. Serrao, Middleton, Livingstone, Quinn, Murray.

Game next Saturday, Home to Annbank, K.O. 2pm.

ASHFIELD JUNIORS 3 KILSYTH RANGERS 0

STAGECOACH WEST REGION SUPERLEAGUE FIRST DIVISION
3/10/09

ASHFIELD JUNIORS  3  KILSYTH RANGERS  0

A very poor performance from Rangers at Ashfield and they now slip to
fourth place in the league. Unless certain issues regarding defensive
frailties and indiscipline are addressed they will struggle to regain a
place in the promotion race. They failed to get to grips with the
weather conditions, restricted pitch width or the direct tactics of a
smart Ashfield team.

Rangers started with the strong breeze behind them but it was Ashfield
who made all the early running, they made a chance in almost the first
seconds and continued to dominate possession for the first ten minutes
or so. Rangers started to come into it and Dalrymple had a couple of
shots but both were well off target. Ashfield hit back and Dukes had to
make a very good save, pushing the ball over for a corner. Rangers were
struggling to keep the ball inside the very narrow pitch, hemmed in by
the surrounding speedway track. Just after the half hour mark and ex-
Ranger, Dereck CARMICHEAL, had a shot from around fifteen yards, Dukes
saved his first shot but it went straight back out to the same player
who made no mistake with his second effort. Rangers had rather a weak
penalty claim denied and Zok tried an overhead kick which slipped past
the post. a goal up at the interval did not flatter Ashfield.

Within four minutes of the restart Rangers went two down; a corner
poorly defended let MAXWELL in to head in a second. Rangers were
struggling to get back into the game and discipline started to fail
with Tough being the first of several bookings. After sixty five
minutes Martin came on for Kelly, who had made little impact on the
game. A minute later and the game was as good as over when Murray made
a needless foul in the box at a set piece and CHALMERS netted from the
resulting spot kick to make it three for Ashfield.  Rangers best effort
of the game came from Dalrymple, who was one of the few to gain a pass
mark, who had a good thirty yard shot go just wide. Further changes
were made; Watters replaced Zok, then McPeake came on for Tough, but it
made little difference, Rangers were a well beaten side by the finish.
A big shake up is needed if they are to regain their place in the
leading group.

KILSYTH: Duke, Scott, Jarvis, Doyle, Murray, McGinty, Kelly, Tough,
Zok, Sichi, Dalrymple.
Subs. McPeake, Neville, Carr, Martin, Watters, O'Donnell, O'Boyle.

Thomson, Maxwell, Carmicheal, Martin.
